IT’S A WAY OF LIFE, NOT JUST 3 OR 4 HOURS OF TIME

by Victor M. Eskew

All of us have a tendency to pigeonhole our lives.  Another way of putting it is that we tend to wear many different hats, hats that are taken off and on at different times.

The Christian life, however, is not a hat that is put on 3 or 4 hours a week, then removed.  No, the Christian life is a way of life.  It is something that is lived 24 hours a day, seven days a week, three hundred sixty-five days a year.

It involves the way we live at home.

It involves the way we live as neighbors to others.

It involves the way we live at work or school.

It involves the way we live as we shop.

It involves the way we live doing extra-curricular activities.

It involves the way we live our recreational lives.

It involves the way we live doing sports and hobbies.

It involves the way we live as we conduct our businesses.

It involves the way we live being involved in social clubs.

It involves the way we live when we have personal time alone.

It involves the way we live as we drive down the road.

It involves the way we live as we worship 3 to 4 hours each week.

It involves the way we live as we deal with our enemies.

Dear readers, Christianity is not a hat.  Christianity is our very skin.  It is something that is supposed to be with us and practiced by us all of the time.

My friend, take off your “Christian hat” and clothe yourself with Jesus Christ.  Adorn yourself with the doctrine of Christ.  Put on the whole armor of God.  Transform yourself into the very image of the Son of God.

When we do these things, we will live for our Lord from the time our eyes open until the time they close at night.  Worship and Bible study will be a significant part of our life, but it will not be the only spiritual aspect of life.  Every step of the day will be governed by a “thus saith the Lord.”  We will pray to God as Jesus did:  “Not my will, but thine be done” in all things.
